Ludvig Aberg stormed into an early lead at the Farmers Insurance Open after carding a nine-under 63 on Torrey Pines North Course.
The Swede made four birdies and an eagle of the front nine to head out in 30 before picking up four more shots on the back. Aberg’s only dropped shot came at the par-four 12th.
Aberg’s good form continues what the golfing world saw in his opening TGL match. The 25-year-old starred as The Bay Golf Club won the tech-infused league’s first-ever fixture.
Aberg’s injury woes are now behind him, and this week’s event in San Diego could well be the start of a hot stretch of golf for the Swede.

Aberg played alongside Keegan Bradley and Sahith Theegala in the opening round on the North Course. The Swede, who will almost certainly be part of the European side at Bethpage Black, revealed that Bradley and Theegala refrained from discussing the Ryder Cup during their round.
“It was cool,” Aberg said.
“Keegan is a nice player. It’s fun to play with him and his caddie are having a good time. Sahith is obviously a really good player. No real chirping back and forth today. Maybe that will come closer to Bethpage.”

If the European Ryder Cup standings ended now, Aberg would be reliant on a pick from Luke Donald.
After not playing on the DP World Tour during the PGA Tour off-season, Aberg is currently 54th in the European Ryder Cup standings with 107 points. However, his situation could change quickly.
With Aberg in a strong position at the Farmers Insurance Open and some significant PGA Tour Signature Events coming up, the 25-year-old could propel himself up the rankings.
LIV Golf star Tyrrell Hatton currently leads the way after picking up two wins since the qualification period started. Rory McIlroy, Rasmus Hojgaard, Paul Waring and Niklas Norgaard make up the top six.
