Ludvig Aberg heads into the Players Championship with a PGA Tour win already under his belt this season.

Aberg has been impressing on TGL, but he became a two-time PGA Tour champion by winning the Genesis Invitational last month.

Swedish star Aberg edged out Maverick McNealy by one shot at Torrey Pines, having also won The RSM Classic back in 2023.

Aberg is disappointed by the injury to Tiger Woods ahead of the Players Championship, but he remains in fine form ahead of the event at TPC Sawgrass.

The 25-year-old will make his sixth start of the season this week, with Aberg joined in the field by the rest of the top 10 golfers in the world.

Aberg clinched one of his eight top 10 finishes at TPC Sawgrass last year, having taken eighth place at the 2024 Players Championship.

He finished on 14-under this time last year, with the Swede now sharing his lowest-ever score at the Ponte Vedra Beach course.

Asked in his pre-tournament press conference for his best round there, Aberg said: “I think my lowest is maybe seven, something like that.

“It feels like over the last… every time I played over the last couple of months it’s been cold and it’s been blowing about 20, so haven’t been very scorable.”

Ludvig Aberg calls TPC Sawgrass 16, 17 and 18 ‘the best finish’

Aberg carded rounds of 67, 73, 67 and 67 last time out, finishing six shots behind champion Scottie Scheffler.

The American successfully defended his title at TPC Sawgrass, winning by one shot after his five-shot triumph in 2023.

But even the world number one and two-time defending champion may feel a little bit of fear heading into this week’s competition given the challenges of the course.

Aberg has been sharing his verdict in Florida, having also been asked which holes he really likes and really hates.

“But it’s a great golf course,” he continued. “I love the back nine. The back nine has got so many good holes.

“12, when they move it up, 14’s a strong hole, 16, 17, 18’s probably the best finish, in my opinion, because you can pretty… not easy, but you can… if you hit the shots, you can go 3, 2, 3, but if you don’t, you can go 6, 6, 6.

“So I like that type of golf, and if you want to win this tournament, you have to step up and hit some good golf shots.”
