Ludvig Aberg returned to PGA Tour action at the RSM Classic on Thursday as the Swede carded a three-over 73 at Sea Island’s Seaside Course.

Aberg dropped three shots on the front nine before making a disappointing double-bogey on the par-five 10th hole. The 25-year-old, however, birdied 12 and 15 to reduce the damage.

Aberg has been struggling with a knee injury since May, and The RSM Classic is the Swede’s first outing since the Tour Championship in Atlanta. Aberg insists his injury issue is behind him, and the 25-year-old will be desperate to attack the 2025 season at peak fitness.

A sluggish opening 18 was to be somewhat expected, and the Swede admitted “bad” parts of his game were exaggerated due to his lack of tournament golf.

“It was hard,” Åberg said after his opening round. “Obviously, it was a rough day. It was a lot of rust, I felt like, but I also felt like the good was pretty good, but the bad was really bad.

“A little bit of everything today, but all in all, pretty happy to be back playing golf again.”

Ludvig Aberg well off the pace at The RSM Classic

Aberg’s 73 sees him well off the pace and near the foot of the leaderboard.

Another prominent storyline in this week’s event involves those who are attempting to earn PGA Tour cards for the 2025 season.

YouTube golf star Wesley Bryan was the man on the bubble before the first round. The American started the RSM Classic with a two-under 70 at the Plantation Course.

Joel Dahmen, who is also around the 125 mark, started with a one-over 73 playing alongside Bryan.

Zac Blair, the third member of Bryan and Dahmen’s group, is another fighting for his PGA Tour future. The 34-year-old currently sits at level par.
