Scottie Scheffler will be hoping to join Lucas Glover in the club of US Open champions this week.
Oakmont is serving as the host of the 125th US Open, and world number one Scheffler enters the tournament as the red-hot favourite to win.
Glover knows what it takes to win America’s national championship – he was victorious at Bethpage Black way back in 2009.
Scheffler is being tipped to comfortably win the US Open this week, and it would certainly be a big shock if he wasn’t at least in contention on Sunday afternoon.
Interestingly, Scheffler held the clubhouse lead at Oakmont during day one in 2016, before falling away to miss the cut by one stroke in the end.

He will be hoping to win the fourth major championship of his career this week, and his first US Open.
But does Glover think that will happen?
Lucas Glover predicts how Scottie Scheffler will perform at the US Open
Many fans believe Scheffler will run away with the trophy this week. However, is Glover on the same page?

Glover has become more of a well-known figure over the past few years, with his outspoken nature regarding all things golf.
He has made it one of his main priorities to challenge the powers that be on the PGA Tour to address certain key issues including slow play.
And Glover recently insisted that golf’s governing bodies need to tighten up driver testing protocols.

“The dude is playing the best, he has been world number one for years. My love for his game and his attitude, and the way he goes about it, hasn’t been exaggerated on this show. I have some kind of a man-crush on that dude and the way he handles himself, it’s impressive. Not to mention the way he plays of course! He just goes about his business and beats our butts, it has been impressive to watch. Nothing would shock me with him but just like every week, everyone starts at zero on Thursday. It’s a tough test, but he’ll be there at the end, you know that.”
Glover is clearly a huge fan of Scheffler, and it is hard to argue with his suggestion that the world number one will ‘be there at the end’.
Three stats that prove Scheffler will comfortably win the US Open
The 28-year-old has been in imperious form on the PGA Tour this season.
He has recorded some quite frankly incredible numbers so far.
Here are three stats in particular that prove he could run away with the US Open trophy this week:
| Statistical category | Scheffler’s rank on the PGA Tour |
| Strokes gained off the tee | 1st |
| Strokes gained approach | 1st |
| Strokes gained scrambling | 1st |
With Oakmont’s incredibly thick and dense rough, keeping the ball in play will be crucial.
Scheffler is the best out of the top players in the world at doing that, and he averages over 300 yards off the tee as well, so he is plenty long enough.
The 28-year-old’s ability to grind and get the ball up and down will be vital as well. Oakmont’s greens are unforgiving, and it’s often extremely difficult to hold them from approach shots.
So if he does miss the odd green, there will be no need to panic.
Scheffler’s ability to get the ball up and down far more regularly than everyone else will help set him apart from the rest at the US Open this week.
Glover clearly fancies Scheffler’s chances at Oakmont, and why wouldn’t he? The man from Dallas is the best and most consistent player in the world right now, by a long way as well.
