The LIV Golf transfer window is in full swing, and rumours are rife across the Saudi-backed golfing venture.

At present, Tony Finau’s move to LIV Golf is the highest-profile story. The six-time PGA Tour winner has withdrawn from the Hero World Challenge and looks set to join the breakaway league.

Several of LIV’s existing teams are also looking for new recruits. Thomas Pieters has moved to Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces, and Jon Rahm wants a new signing for Legion XIII.

Another team rumoured to be in the market was Ripper GC. The Aussie quartet of Cam Smith, Marc Leishman, Lucas Herbert and Matt Jones were set to run it back in 2025 after winning the 2024 Team Championship.

However, recent speculation has emerged around Jones, with several young Aussie prospects, unsurprisingly, eager to join Ripper.

With the likes of Elvis Smylie coming through the ranks, Ripper always had the possibility of adding a younger member to the team, and Jones was the obvious candidate to make way.

However, according to Australian Golf Digest’s Brad Clifton, Jones’ spot on the team is safe.

A lot of Twitter talk around @livgolf_league trades and Team Champs @rippergc_ situation around Matt Jones,” he wrote.

“My reliable sources tell me his contract has never been in question and is currently in the process of being rubber-stamped for 2025. Play on….”

Matt Jones 2024 LIV Golf League record

Jones was a solid performer for Ripper during the 2024 season, although his form did tail off towards the back end of the year.

The Aussie’s best performances came in Jeddah and Miami, where he finished 14th and 9th respectively.

However, Jones struggled in Nashville and Andalucia, finishing near the bottom of the leaderboard. Clearly, there are more exciting prospects out there, but Smith has shown trust in Jones and clearly tried to avoid the growing noise around Ripper’s potential transfer activity.

The Aussie side won’t be short of options if they ever do delve into the transfer market.
