Spain has become one of the powerhouses of European golf in recent years, with Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia the highest-profile names to succeed at the top level.
However, some lesser-known players have also made an impact in 2024. Ángel Hidalgo beat Rahm in a playoff at the Spanish Open, and Jorge Campillo finished second at the Andalucia Masters after a long-winded playoff against Julien Guerrier.
Furthermore, Seve Ballesteros’ legacy means Spanish golfing history is highly respected around the world.
Clearly, Rahm and Garcia are the pair driving golf in Spain, and Puig, speaking in a recent podcast, has discussed the pair’s talents.
Jon Rahm vs Sergio Garcia

Speaking during the Sub-Par Podcast, Puig was asked who the better driver out of Rahm and Garcia is.
“Driving, it’s between Sergio and Jon. Statistics show that Jon is probably better, but when Sergio is on, he’s crazy. I think Jon is a little longer now, so I am going to take him,” said Puig.
Puig is one of the youngest players in the LIV Golf League and finished 26th in the standings after competing in 14/15 events in 2024.
Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia driving statistics
Let’s see if the statistics back up Puig’s claim on Rahm and Garcia.
According to LIV Golf’s data, Garcia was the third most accurate driver on LIV during the 2024 season. Garcia’s accuracy was at 67%, with Abraham Ancer and Henrik Stenson being the only players to be better than the Spaniard.
Rahm placed 11th on LIV for accuracy, hitting the fairway 63% of the time.
However, when it comes to driving distance, it’s clear who has the upper hand. Rahm is the fourth-longest hitter on LIV with an average of 318 yards. Garcia is way back in 22nd spot with an average of 306 yards.
Rahm’s extra distance has undoubtedly made a difference this season after the two-time major winner clinched the individual championship in Chicago.
