Justin Thomas launched himself into contention at the Valspar Championship with a fine third round performance alongside good friend Jordan Spieth.

Spieth and Thomas are both looking to end long runs without a win on the PGA Tour and the two well known pals seemed to feed off one another in round three.

Thomas sits just two back of the lead while Spieth is only four back himself. It means both Americans are in contention for Sunday, as is a resurgent Viktor Hovland.

Of course, all three of those players will have an eye on the Ryder Cup this year and Thomas has admitted that for him and Spieth, it’s not being ignored.

Justin Thomas sends message to Keegan Bradley after round three of the Valspar

Speaking after playing himself into contention once again on the PGA Tour this season, Justin Thomas was asked about the potential of impressing Keegan Bradley enough to get into the Ryder Cup team.

And Thomas admitted that for him and Spieth, it’s very much something on their minds.

“I think both of us would probably be lying if we said no. I mean, he got it going, hopefully Keegan was watching, I think we had a good best ball today,” Thomas said.

“But, I mean, a little bit. We obviously enjoy each other’s company and have played and are comfortable playing with each other and played a lot of golf together.

“But definitely makes it a lot better when you’re out a little earlier than you would like on a Saturday morning, but you can kind of get the crowd into it. And we made a couple putts there on 4 and then he made a long one there on 7 and it seemed like that kind of got the crowd going and that’s fun for us.”

Why Justin Thomas may already be locked in for Keegan Bradley

While Thomas hasn’t won for a few years now, he has had a bit of a resurgence so far in 2025 and he’s already had three top tens, including a second at The American Express.

Thomas is outside of the automatic places for team USA right now, with Spieth even further away.

However, Bradley has already spoken of his admiration for Thomas in the past, meaning he might well be a locked in captain’s pick anyway.

“I love these guys. One of the main reasons that I wanted to make the team is because I wanted to be around these guys and the energy they have. I see JT, the way he prepares and practices and if I was a captain, I would want him in my locker room,” Bradley said back in 2023.

With Thomas now backing up support from Bradley with solid golf, he’s looking more and more likely to be a part of Team USA if he continues on.
