Jordan Spieth is arguably the most entertaining player to watch on the PGA Tour and he just showed why at the Valspar Championship.

Spieth only just made the cut at the Copperhead Course at one over par but he now has a chance to win the tournament.

That’s because he shot a four-under 67 while playing alongside good friend Justin Thomas – who was six under – in the third round.

The 2015 Masters champion did something twice on Saturday which perfectly sums up his inconsistent game at the moment.

Jordan Spieth makes two incredible birdies at the Valspar Championship

Birdies are obviously common on the PGA Tour but Spieth has an unbelievable knack for making ones that you rarely see.

The first of two examples of this in the third round at the Valspar Championship came on the par-four second hole.

Spieth hit his near-300-yard drive left into the trees and had to play his next shot off the pine straw. He then hit an excellent wedge shot and made the putt for an unlikely birdie.

And, in classic Spieth fashion, he did something very similar at the seventh hole on the Copperhead Course.

This time, his drive went way right and left him with an even more awkward approach shot from around 160 yards to the flag.

Again, he played an excellent shot through a gap in the trees and went on to sink the birdie opportunity.

Of course, fans love to watch players recover from difficult situations and it’s certainly an important skill to have, but it’s also far from ideal to need to do it regularly.

Jordan Spieth’s game heating up in time for the Masters Tournament

While Spieth still needs to tidy up his game somewhat – mainly by reducing the number of erratic tee shots – the good news is that he’s trending in the right direction.

He achieved top-10 finishes at the WM Phoenix Open and the Cognizant Classic earlier this season and now he’s in a position to contend on the final day of the Valspar Championship.

With the Masters now less than three weeks away, perhaps Spieth is hitting form at just the right time to add another green jacket to his resume.

Spieth’s success at Augusta National is not limited to his victory in 2015. He has five other top-five results in the last 11 years.
