Every golf fan was disappointed when Tiger Woods announced his Achilles injury before The Players Championship.

Woods wasn’t going to play at TPC Sawgrass anyway, but many expected him to make his PGA Tour return at the Masters next month.

He will now spend the foreseeable future recovering from his latest setback and nobody knows when he could return to competition.

After the second round of the Valspar Championship, Justin Thomas was asked whether he had spoken to Woods since his injury.

Justin Thomas speaks about Tiger Woods’ Achilles injury

Woods was the ultimate competitor in his prime and, much like fellow sports stars Kobe Bryant and Tom Brady of the same era, had an aura that intimidated his rivals.

However, in recent times, Woods has become much more personable and developed relationships with several other PGA Tour stars.

He and Rory McIlroy are close and worked together to come up with TGL, while he also gets on well with former Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup teammate Thomas.

As a result, Thomas was asked about Woods in his post-round press conference at the Valspar Championship on Friday.

Thomas revealed that he has talked with the 15-time major champion since his injury and promised to “support him” wherever necessary.

“Of course, injuries are a bummer and it’s a tough recovery, but unfortunately he’s been through a lot of ’em and had his fair share of injuries, but all of us will be there for him and support him when we need to.”

When asked if Woods had told him “how bad” the injury was, Thomas responded: “No, no, I mean that’s between him kind of thing.”

When Tiger Woods could return to professional golf

Woods has not provided a timeline for his recovery and potential return to professional golf, probably because he doesn’t know himself.

A ruptured Achilles is one of the worst injuries an athlete can suffer, with Kevin Durant and Aaron Rodgers each missing well over 12 months with the same issue in recent years. That might explain why McIlroy said recently that Woods will not play in 2025.

Perhaps if his recovery goes well, Woods could play in the father/son PNC Championship in late December with his son, Charlie.

Alternatively, Woods could make his competitive return in the 2026 season of TGL, assuming he remains part of the Jupiter Links Golf Club team.
