Justin Thomas can be extremely proud of his efforts at the ZOZO Championship, having fallen just short to Nico Echavarria.

Echavarria labelled Thomas ‘incredible’ after their ZOZO Championship battle, where the former won by one shot.

American duo Thomas and Max Greyserman tied for second on 19-under, with Echavarria taking the title on 20-under.

The Colombian now has two PGA Tour titles to his name, having also lifted the trophy at the Puerto Rico Open in 2023.

Thomas was disappointed to lose the ZOZO Championship, where he carded rounds of 66, 64, 65 and 66.

But his sportsmanship has now come to light after the latest event on the FedEx Cup Fall schedule, which took place across the Pacific in Japan.

Taking to social media after the tournament, Thomas wrote on Instagram: “Really enjoyed my time in Japan for the ZOZO Championship. Putter cooled off on me on Sunday, but felt great to be in the thick of it coming down the stretch.

“Lots of positives to build on and improve before 2025. Congrats to Nico Echavarria and team on his victory. Very well played.”

Echavarria deserves huge praise for both holding his nerve in Japan and indeed holding off stiff competition.

He fully deserved the success at the Narashino Country Club, although he was helped out by some narrow misses from Thomas.

The American’s putter let him down in the final stages of the tournament, with Thomas perhaps set to work on that area of his game in the coming weeks.

But there are undoubtedly more positives than negatives to take from the event for the 15-time PGA Tour winner.

The T2 finish will be disappointing in the early aftermath, but as time goes on it should really help him believe that a return to winning ways is just around the corner.
