Justin Thomas enjoyed a bittersweet ZOZO Championship after finishing runner-up in the latest FedEx Cup Fall event.
Thomas was the closest he had been to a win in over a year heading into the final round of the ZOZO Championship in Japan.
But the American ultimately fell short, with Thomas finishing tied second with Max Greyserman on 19-under, one shot behind champion Nico Echavarria.
Thomas praised Narashino Country Club before the event got underway, having not played the course for five years.
And he certainly hit the ground running in Japan, with the 15-time PGA Tour winner opening with rounds of 66 and 64.

Justin Thomas shares feelings after ZOZO Championship runner-up finish
Thomas followed that up with rounds of 65 and 66, with Echavarria holding firm to add to his 2023 Puerto Rico Open title.
As quoted by the PGA Tour website, the former has shared his immediate reaction to finishing tied second, with Thomas saying: “It’s a mixture of obviously bummed and disappointed, but I played so well. I played plenty well enough to win the tournament … I gave myself a chance.
“Hit so many good putts today that just didn’t go in. That’s the difference. I needed some of those ones that burned the edge to fall.
“I did a lot of things really well. The stuff I’ve been working on, everything I’ve been doing is obviously the right stuff and I’m still going the right direction. Just got to keep trying to put myself in contention and right there as often as I can.
“Just kind of hope for a law of averages thing, eventually you end up getting it done, but it’s just about putting yourself there more.”
Justin Thomas continues PGA Tour drought at the ZOZO Championship
Thomas will rue several near misses at the ZOZO Championship, with his putting set to come under particular scrutiny.
The American has now continued his two-and-a-half-year trophy drought, with his last win coming at the 2022 PGA Championship.
He can, however, be proud of the runner-up finish in Japan, particularly amid his struggles and indeed the very strong field that took part.

Thomas will gain plenty of confidence from the performance, having pushed ultimate winner Echavarria all the way in Japan.
At the same time, however, he will be thinking about what could have been after several near misses on the greens.
