Nico Echavarria became the latest PGA Tour winner after fending off a challenge from Justin Thomas at the ZOZO Championship.

Thomas was ‘disappointed’ after finishing tied-second at the ZOZO Championship, sharing the honour with Max Greyserman.

The American duo finished on 19-under in Japan, with Colombian Echavarria winning the event by one shot.

Golf fans felt Thomas lost due to his putting, with the 15-time PGA Tour winner having watched several putts narrowly miss the hole.

Two-time PGA Championship winner Thomas can, however, still be proud of his efforts at the Narashino Country Club.

Nico Echavarria praises Justin Thomas after ZOZO Championship win

But it was Echavarria who deserves all the praise, with the Colombian now a two-time PGA Tour winner after his 2023 Puerto Rico Open success.

Speaking in his ZOZO Championship winning press conference, he has now shared his thoughts on his latest title, saying: “It was very close all day, it was fun. (Thomas and Greyserman) got off to a hot start and it was very level during the last, I don’t know, 13 holes or 10 holes.

“Max played great. Justin has been playing incredible, he hit a lot of good putts that didn’t go in. But overall, it was special to finish birdie-par-birdie and take this home.”

It had been a tough season for Echavarria ahead of the ZOZO Championship, having secured just one top-10 finish.

The Colombian had also suffered 12 missed cuts, most recently at the Shriners Children’s Open just last week.

Echavarria also missed the cuts at the Procore Championship and Sanderson Farms Championship, in what had been a miserable FedEx Cup Fall.

But he put that right in Japan, firing a final-round 67 to hold off the dangerous threats of Thomas and Greyserman.

The 2023 Puerto Rico Open is rightfully delighted with his second title, with Echavarria adding: “It’s the second win on the PGA Tour; not a lot of people get to win two times on the PGA Tour. I’m just going to enjoy this as much as I can and get ready for the next one.”
