Tiger Woods’ TGL finally has a start date, and former world number one Justin Thomas is one of the star names set to feature in the innovative golf league.

The TGL will start in January and will see PGA Tour players compete in six teams representing six separate cities. The indoor event will host two-hour-long matches using a mixture of virtual reality and real life.

After the schedule was announced, Woods will play his first match on January 14, and Rory McIlroy, who was instrumental in getting the venture off the ground, will compete two weeks later.

Thomas will also be involved at the SoFi Center in Florida, and the two-time major winner discussed the TGL during his press duties ahead of the ZOZO Championship in Japan.

Thomas, perhaps unsurprisingly, was enthusiastic about the project, which was initially launched in response to the emergence of the LIV Golf League.

“It’s going to be different, but it will be exciting for all of us just because it is,” Thomas explained.

“We play golf in a lot of different places in the world, different grasses, different feel in front of the fans, but we have never done anything like this. It’s going to be something that is going to bring a different light and different hype and vision around a golf competition.

“It’s not your standard to go out and play 72 holes, and the low score wins. It will be exciting for fans to watch, and I think it will be an opportunity for us to enjoy. It’s not the grind of a normal tournament week, but we are all very competitive and are going to want to beat each other and win.”

Thomas added: “It’s hard to say what to expect as it’s new and different to us, but I think it will bring some great coverage and new life to a golf competition.”

Justin Thomas TGL team revealed

Thomas kicks off his TGL campaign on January 21. The two-time major winner is part of Atlanta Drive GC. Patrick Cantlay, Billy Horschel and Lucas Glover make up the rest of the four-man squad.

Atlanta Drive GC will face New York Golf Club, a team consisting of Xander Schauffele, Matt Fitzpatrick, Rickie Fowler, and Cameron Young.

New York Golf Club will have already played one game before they face Thomas’ men. Schauffele’s team is set to kick off the 2025 TGL league against The Bay Golf Club.

Fans who want to catch a piece of the action will be able to watch the first seven matches live on ESPN or ESPN2. All matches will air in prime time, and on February 17, a Presidents’ Day tripleheader will take place.
