Justin Thomas endured a frustrating time at the PGA Championship, having missed the cut at Quail Hollow.

Thomas enjoyed brief moments of PGA Championship success in North Carolina, where he opened with a two-over 73.

The two-time major champion followed that up with a second round 72 to end on three-over, with Thomas missing the one-over cut.

Thomas expected Quail Hollow difficulties, and that is what happened at a course that was hit with heavy rainfall before the tournament started.

He entered the PGA Championship in fine form, clinching his first PGA Tour win of the season at the RBC Heritage shortly before.

The American followed that playoff win with a T2 finish at the Truist Championship, but failed to continue that momentum into the second major of 2025.

He has since analysed his efforts on social media, sharing a video of his swing on Instagram with the caption: “Been a bit since I’ve done one of these… My current “feel vs real” in the golf swing.

“Still been working on a lot of the same stuff in my swing, but trying to use the week off to fine-tune some things.

“While last week was far from what we wanted, I hit a lot of good shots that I wasn’t able to capitalize on and just didn’t have my best stuff.

“My dominant miss was a solid strike but pulled to the left. I’ve had a tendency to get the club shut a touch on the way back pretty much my entire life.

“While it being slightly closed I’m always ok with, hitting a straight pull to the left is generally a tell sign for me that it’s too closed.

“Because of that, having the feeling of opening it going back is a thought I’ve used many times in my career and one I’ve even implemented in the middle of a round to fix a left ball.

“After a weekend off, I’ll spend a day or so exaggerating it as much as I can in practice to where I then don’t have to think about it as much (or so I hope!).

“There’s always “play feels” vs “range feels” for me, which is essentially something I could use to go play a tournament round with vs a thought I’m only focusing on while on the range where the flight and result of the ball isn’t as important, more the positions.”

Justin Thomas 2025 PGA Championship scoring stats

As mentioned, Thomas had been enjoying himself on the PGA Tour in the lead up to the PGA Championship.

His current stats impressively read one win and three runner-up finishes in 2025 so far, having now made 12 starts.

Thomas also has six top 10s and six top 25s, with the only missed cut for the two-time PGA Championship winner coming at Quail Hollow.

He will, therefore, be very disappointed with his latest finish, but at the same time he clearly knows where he went wrong, which is a positive.

Moreover, he certainly wasn’t the only big name to struggle at the PGA Championship, with the likes of Jordan Spieth, Shane Lowry and Ludvig Aberg also missing the cut.

But he doesn’t exactly have a lot of time to perfect his swing issue, with the US Open taking place at Oakmont in mid-June.
