Scottie Scheffler made career history by winning his first PGA Championship, but the success could also be viewed as a win for the PGA Tour over LIV Golf.
Scheffler has continued the trend of PGA Tour winners triumphing at major championships in 2025, with Rory McIlroy having won The Masters.
Many LIV Golf players took on both tournaments, having taken a brief pause from their duties on the Saudi-backed tour in a bid for major success.
Eight of the 15 full-time LIV players made the cut at the PGA Championship, with Bryson DeChambeau flying the flag with his T2 finish.
Like DeChambeau, fellow LIV Golf player Jon Rahm had been in contention during the final round at Quail Hollow.

Brandel Chamblee makes LIV Golf claim after what happened at the PGA Championship
But neither player could outshine Scheffler, with Brandel Chamblee directly linking their shortcomings to their presence on LIV Golf.
In a strongly-worded message, he wrote on X: “How else can anyone explain such a wide and precipitous drop off in form of all but a few of LIV’s players.

“After all they poached the best that their petro-dollars could buy, but LIV’s format and lack of competition is not an ideal way to keep their players competitive.
“Why don’t they go to 72 holes? Why don’t they have an open qualifying for half of their spots? Why don’t they play under tougher conditions?
“We all know why. They don’t care about the careers of their players, only the stigma of admitting to a failed idea.”
Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas hurt Brandel Chamblee’s LIV Golf argument
LIV Golf certainly differs greatly from the PGA Tour, with the former involving shotgun starts and no cuts among other differences.
And the likes of DeChambeau and Rahm have shone there this season, currently occupying second and third places respectively in the individual standings.
But Chamblee thinks Rahm has pressure problems, having witnessed the Spaniard fall out of contention and tie for eighth at Quail Hollow.
It is, however, worth remembering that he is a two-time major champion, having won the 2021 US Open and The Masters in 2023.

But more importantly, Chamblee’s argument about LIV Golf was undermined by many high-profile PGA Tour players missing the cut at Quail Hollow.
LIV’s Phil Mickelson and Brooks Koepka were among those failing to make the weekend, but so were Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas.
Like Rahm, the American duo are multi-major winners, with Spieth having been chasing the career grand slam last week.
They have really dropped off from the heights they once reached, and they weren’t the only PGA Tour stars to miss the cut.
Justin Rose and Shane Lowry, who have both won a major championship, struggled at Quail Hollow and failed to make it beyond round two.

And there may even be a much simpler reason for Chamblee’s proposed LIV golfer drop-off, in that Scheffler is merely unbeatable in his current form.
A major win is extremely difficult at the best of times, but Scheffler proved he is on another level entirely with his commanding five-shot success in North Carolina.
