Justin Rose flew out of the blocks on day three at The Scottish Open, with three birdies inside his first six holes.

However, Rose was brought back down to earth with a bang after three successive bogeys from the seventh hole onwards.

And what the Englishman did on the ninth hole during the third round of The Scottish Open was totally unacceptable

The 44-year-old is actually known for being one of the more level-headed players out on the PGA Tour.

Rose received huge praise for the way he handled his Masters play-off defeat to Rory McIlroy.

The 2013 US Open champion is extremely popular on tour, both with the players and the fans, due to his affable nature.

So it was a huge surprise when he acted in a completely irrational way midway through his third round in Scotland on Saturday.

Justin Rose displays concerning behaviour at The Scottish Open

Rose hit what he thought was a decent tee shot on the par-three ninth hole.

However, his ball bounced to the right and ended up in a bunker short right of the green.

Rose didn’t connect properly with his bunker shot, and left himself around 20 feet away from the hole.

That’s when the Englishman allowed his temper to spill over. Rose smashed his club into the side of his bag, narrowly missing his caddie’s hand in the process.

It really was a disgraceful showing from the European Ryder Cup legend, but it must be said that it was completely out of character.

However, what it did do was highlight the need for change.

The PGA Tour simply have to urgently clamp down on this kind of on-course conduct before it spreads any further.

Justin Rose’s behaviour a sign of an ever-growing PGA Tour problem

Rose’s outburst on the ninth hole at The Renaissance Club on Saturday was yet another example of the unsavoury behaviour that has plagued the PGA Tour this season.

There seems to be a growing trend in professional golf right now whereby some of the best players in the world are setting terrible examples for young fans of the game.

Shane Lowry lost his cool at the US Open in June, while Cameron Young incurred the wrath of many golf fans with his petulant behaviour at The Travelers Championship.

Back in May, Wyndham Clark was forced to release an apology, after his atrocious actions at the PGA Championship.

And then incredibly, he had to do the same thing just one month later at the US Open after wrecking a couple of lockers inside the Oakmont clubhouse.

Something has to be done about the poor etiquette we have witnessed during tournaments this season.

After all, golf is supposed to be a game for gentlemen, and some of the conduct we’ve seen this season could not be further removed from that.
