Luke Donald will be remembered as one of the greatest Ryder Cup captains ever after winning the event twice in a row.

Donald led the European team to a huge victory in Rome two years ago, and they have now beaten the USA away from home as well.

The Englishman has performed so well in the role that many players, pundits, and fans have called for him to do it again in 2027.

If Donald does not want to take charge of the European team for a third Ryder Cup, Justin Rose would be an extremely popular alternative.

Rose has already explained whether he would be up for the challenge at Adare Manor next time.

Justin Rose says whether he wants 2027 Ryder Cup captaincy

Justin Rose was the oldest player on the European team and has all the personality traits that you would want in a captain.

It seems obvious that he will become a captain within the next decade, but 2027 might come too soon for him.

Rose is playing some of the best golf of his career and will have ambitions of playing at Adare Manor rather than captaining.

“Listen, Luke has been phenomenal. He has really given his heart and soul to this thing for four years now. He has left a seriously strong blueprint, and he has made it very daunting for the next guy,” he said.

“The European legends of the game have always said, ‘Play, play, play. Play as long as you can because they are the best days of your life.’

“There is time for vice-captains and time for captaincy. When it’s the right time, if I’m ever asked, ‘Oh my God, yes please.’ But I love being in battle. It fires me up and takes me to a place I didn’t know I could go.

“I think after being a pro for 28 years, I had to go places this week where I have never been before. It has tested my resolve.

“I feel like I have never played in an environment like this before, to feel like I am learning as a player at 45 is incredible, and I think that I need to protect that for as long as I can.”

Rose did not play foursomes at Bethpage Black, but he did team up with Tommy Fleetwood in both fourball sessions.

On Friday afternoon, the English duo beat Bryson DeChambeau and Ben Griffin 1up to continue Europe’s strong start.

The following day, Rose carried Fleetwood to victory against DeChambeau and Scottie Scheffler with a sensational putting display.

Rose unfortunately lost his singles match against Cameron Young after the American made a clutch birdie on the 18th hole.
