Cameron Young gave the United States team a huge boost by beating Justin Rose in his singles match on Sunday.

Young had a three-hole lead at one stage on the back nine before Rose fought back to level the score.

The match was then tied heading into the final hole, and Young holed an impressive putt to win the point for the US.

The American is widely regarded as one of the most stoic players on the PGA Tour, but he was fired up after his crucial victory.

Young was sent out first on Sunday by Keegan Bradley because he was arguably in the best form of all the American players.

He was under immense pressure, especially playing in his first-ever Ryder Cup, but he rose to the occasion.

Young was more emotional than golf fans had ever seen him when he spoke to a reporter after his match against Rose.

“Yeah, I’ve been thinking about having a putt like that for a while,” he reflected on his superb performance against Rose.

“The way things were going halfway through the back nine today, I didn’t want that putt, and then the way things were going through 17, I was very grateful that I had a chance there.

“Yeah, I’ve been thinking about that one for a while, and it felt good to see it go right in the middle.”

Cameron Young says why the Ryder Cup brought out more passion

Collin Morikawa wanted Young to show some passion at the Ryder Cup this week, and he did not disappoint on the final day.

Young has now explained why he showed his emotions at Bethpage Black on Sunday when he never normally does.

“A lot of reasons. This is the biggest event that we have really,” he added. “There’s no bigger stage to play on, in my home state, a golf course that I love.

“There are 11 other guys on this team that I was working really hard for, and Keegan has put so much into this, all the vice captains.

“There are a lot of people who have had so much to do with putting on this week, and I was just playing my hardest for all of them.”
