Tyrrell Hatton is set to be the latest big-name golfer to make the jump over to LIV Golf for the new season.
Hatton is set to sign a deal worth some £50m to join Jon Rahm over in the LIV leagues. The move is yet another blow to the PGA Tour, who are losing one of their top 25 players in the world.
Of course, Hatton’s move was always going to draw attention and turn heads. He had been rumoured to be on his way for weeks and today’s report from The Telegraph simply confirmed those rumours.
However, there are other implications at play here with Hatton’s move. And those implications will directly affect a certain Rory McIlroy.

Tyrrell Hatton’s LIV move to impact Rory McIlroy and TGL
As we know, McIlroy has been a staunch critic of LIV and pines for a world tour in the future.
McIlroy has already set up his own TGL team and Tyrrell Hatton was set to be part of his Boston Common Golf team.
But as Barstool Sports journalist and Dan Rapaport explains, Hatton’s move to LIV now means he won’t be able to line up alongside Rory in the TGL, putting a further spanner in the works for the Northern Irishman.
McIlroy always at the centre of things
Whenever LIV comes up and a player is on the move, it seems like Rory McIlory cannot get away from somehow being involved.
This move from Hatton will come as a blow to McIlroy but there’s no doubt he’ll have heard from Hatton first-hand that it was happening.
The pair have a close relationship and Hatton will have – we hope – informed McIlroy of his choice well before the media got hold of this.
Yet again, though, McIlroy will find himself answering questions on LIV ahead of the next PGA event.
