Jon Rahm became the lates big name to join LIV Golf recently and Spanish legend Sergio Garcia has said the Masters champion should be thankful.
Garcia was one of the first big names to move from the PGA Tour over to LIV and he also opted out of the DP World Tour to make the move.
Like others such as Bryson Dechambeau, Phil Mickelson, and Brooks Koepka, Garcia came in for a lot of criticism when he made the switch.
But now, with Rahm moving and talk of a potential merger being mentioned by the likes of Rory McIlory, Garcia believes he and others need to be thanked for their efforts.

Sergio Garcia says Jon Rahm should be thanking him
Speaking in an interview with The Standard, the experienced Garcia spoke about LIV and his feelings on it, including a nod to Rahm being thankful.
“It shows we’re here to stay for a long time. People were thinking this is going to be 2 or 3 years and then gone. You’re seeing guys sign through to late 2020s and maybe even the 2030s. Rahm should probably thank us a little bit for that – we knew being the first ones we would take some heat. We believed in the product, we believed in how good LIV is and it can become even better. We just had to ride the wave of criticism, but now people are starting to see the reality of it,” Garcia said.
Certainly, it looks like LIV is now here to stay and the talk of a merger with the PGA in some way could lead Golf into a brand new era.
Garcia was one of the more popular and successful players on the PGA Tour. He’ll be hoping that if any merger does happen, he can get back to competing in all the big events like he used to.
The Spaniard was an 11-time winner on the PGA Tour, including coming out on top in the 2017 Masters.
