Rory McIlroy has now responded after Greg Norman offered his verdict on the Northern Irishman’s latest comments about LIV Golf.
Rory McIlroy made headlines last week when he seemed to admit that there is a place for LIV in the sport, having previously been incredibly critical of the breakaway tour.
Unsurprisingly, LIV CEO Greg Norman took little time to respond to the comments. And he suggested that McIlroy had fallen on his sword and accepted that LIV are doing a lot of good things.

But the 34-year-old clearly remains defiant. And it appears that he does not feel that he offered the kind of praise Norman seemed to revel in.

As reported by The Telegraph, McIlroy was asked if Norman was correct in his response to his comments last week.
“Definitely not,” McIlroy said. “I don’t think this sort of upheaval in the game for the last two years has been great. And people could argue that it takes two to tango. If somebody is willing to pay you more for your services than someone else, well, I understand that. But while I can understand it, I don’t have to agree with it.”
Plenty of work to be done before golf is united again
McIlroy has certainly been extremely critical of Norman in the past. As reported by the Guardian in 2022, he suggested that Norman’s departure from LIV would help heal the wounds which have opened up over the past couple of years.
So it is little surprise that McIlroy is not prepared to agree with Norman’s assessment of what he said.
It is clear that people on both sides are going to have to compromise on what they have said in the past if all of the major tours are going to find a way to co-exist.
McIlroy has shown a lot of class and made it clear that he would be prepared to play his part in uniting the sport again.
However, it is seemingly going to be a lot harder for McIlroy to remain amicable if Norman is also at the table.
