The United States endured a tough second day at the Presidents Cup after the International Team produced a stunning comeback.

After completely dominating Thursday’s fourballs, Jim Furyk’s men struggled amidst a hostile atmosphere at Royal Montreal Golf Club.

The United States captain made some interesting calls before the 2024 edition, with Max Homa’s inclusion drawing criticism.

There was also scepticism over Brian Harman’s place on the team, with match-play specialist Justin Thomas left at home.

And after Harman’s foursome performance on Friday, Furyk’s decision to include the lefty may already be backfiring.

Playing alongside Homa, Harman failed to make an impact and saw Jason Day and Christiaan Bezuidenhout claim a one-up victory.

Per Data Golf’s stats, Harman was among the worst-performing USA stars on Friday.

Harman lost -3.01, with only Sahith Theegala below him in the metric. With the likes of Thomas and Billy Horschel sat at home, Furyk will soon come under fire if Harman’s mediocre form continues.

Max Homa proves doubters wrong with impressive performance at Royal Montreal

One player who proved the doubters was Homa.

The six-time PGA Tour winner has been struggling with his driver during the second half of the season, but on Friday, he was statistically the USA’s best player, ahead of Scottie Scheffler.

Despite the last-ditch loss on the 18th, Homa has plenty of reason to be positive heading into the weekend fixtures.

Two rounds of matches follow on Friday before Sunday’s singles take centre stage. Right now, the USA are facing a battle to ensure that the tenth successive Presidents Cup remains on course.
