Jim Furyk told he’s made another really ‘odd’ decision with his Presidents Cup team other than Max Homa’s inclusion

Jim Furyk played it safe with his six Presidents Cup picks, as the six next-best Americans joined the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele in the 12-man team.

Brian Harman, Tony Finau, Russell Henley, Sam Burns, Keegan Bradley and Max Homa are the names set to feature alongside those who have automatically qualified.

Justin Thomas and Akshay Bhatia were snubbed. Thomas has since reacted to the news and accepted that Furyk did what was best for the team.

Of those who were picked, Bradley’s inclusion was particularly eye-catching, and Golf Channel pundit Rex Hoggard believes Furyk’s selection of the 2025 Ryder Cup captain is ‘odd’.

Many pundits told Furyk to leave Bradley off his team with suggestions that his win at the BMW Championship was very much a ‘flash in the pan’.

It’s a view shared by Hoggard, who delivered his thoughts on the Golf Channel.

“The only one I really get hung up on, and you were also sour on Keegan Bradley, based on one event at elevation that seemed to push him over the top,” Hoggard explained.

“Just a few weeks ago, he clearly was not in the mix to be a pick; he was a vice-captain, so it seems odd you are going to be a pick at that point.

“I get where he’s coming from when you look at the idea and the way he has performed in the past, how he fits into this team; he didn’t finish well in the playoffs, but we are doing this thing where we are saying how you play at East Lake is going to be how you play at Royal Montreal.”

Pressure on Keegan Bradley to perform at the Presidents Cup

There’s no doubt Bradley is under pressure to perform at the Presidents Cup.

The American has largely underperformed in 2024. Clearly, Furyk’s decision was influenced by the 38-year-old’s win in Denver, a tournament that took place 6000 feet above sea level in unusual conditions.

The 2025 Ryder Cup captain will know all eyes will be on his performance in Montreal, and he must deliver when given the chance.

Bradley losing matches at the Presidents Cup would be far from ideal as preparations for golf’s most significant event at Bethpage Black begin to ramp up.
