Jason Day was blighted by a long-term back injury since 2015 – and the Aussie has now revealed whether the same issue has been impacting him this season.
After falling all the way down to 175 in the world, Day is well and truly back among the world’s best and currently sits 28th in the official world golf rankings.
Day has been highly active during the 2024 season, having featured in 16 events thus far. The Aussie’s T4 at the Wells Fargo Championship has been the highlight.
The former world number one is in action at this week’s John Deere Classic, and despite predicting low scoring, the 36-year-old failed to keep pace during the first round after carding a sup-par two under 69.

Speaking before Thursday’s first round, Day was quizzed on whether his long-term back issues are still a problem.
“No, not anymore [nurse his back],” he explained.
“I used to, but not anymore. I feel like I’ve worked my way out of it touch wood. I feel good.”
The Aussie went on to claim it’s nice to be finally talking positively about his back issues.
He added: “It’s nice to be here talking about my back on a positive note instead of a negative note.”

During the same press conference, Day also revealed that the back injury caused him to pull out of the 2022 edition of the John Deere Classic.
For the golfing world, seeing the Aussie back to his best is excellent news. Along with Martin Kaymer, Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth, Day was one of the red-hot players from 2014 onwards.
2024 has been solid for the 36-year-old, but it feels as if Day is still searching for something.
With the likes of Collin Morikawa and Scottie Scheffler setting a red-hot pace, the Aussie will have to find another gear if he’s to gatecrash the top end of the leaderboards properly.
