Jason Day has made a prediction over how low the scoring will get at this week’s John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run in Illinois.

The Aussie is competing at the event for the first time since 2011 before heading across the Atlantic for The Open Championship, which gets underway at Royal Troon on July 18.

The John Deere should continue the pattern of low-scoring PGA Tour events after the Rocket Mortgage Classic and signature Travelers Championship.

Day also believes this week’s event could be another low-scoring affair.

Speaking to the media ahead of Thursday’s first round, Day believes the receptive greens could lead to some extremely low scores.

“The greens are very receptive,” he explained.

“They’re not as soft as I thought they were going to be. If we can scoot by tomorrow with no rain – Thursday through Saturday – there’s meant to be a little bit on Sunday.”

The Aussie went on to suggest scoring could reach the low 20s come the final round.

He added: “I think it will start to firm up, and the scores will be low. I wouldn’t be surprised to see low 20s just because of that.”

The PGA Tour deserves credit for recent course set-ups

After the penalising US Open at Pinehurst No.2, the PGA Tour deserves immense credit for providing some easier set-ups in recent weeks.

Fans won’t want birdie-fests every single week, but providing a balance is an absolute must.

In 2024, the Wells Fargo, Colonial, and Memorial have all provided extremely stern tests along with the major championships – excluding the PGA Championship at Valhalla.

Striking a balance is essential, and that’s exactly what the authorities have done throughout the season.

Hopefully, as we head through to the PGA Tour playoffs, sterner tests will emerge once more.
