Predictions

The Golfing Gazette writers predict who they think will lift the Irish Open trophy:

Peter Lynch: “My heart says Rory McIlroy, but the Northern Irishman hasn’t enjoyed many home comforts in recent years, so I’ll stick with my head and choose Aaron Rai. A first PGA Tour win came at the Wyndham Championship last month, and I think he is more than capable of doing the business on the DP World Tour this week.”

Jordan Harris: “Much of the focus will be on Rory McIlroy this week, but Thomas Detry has had a promising year on the PGA Tour, making the BMW Championship during the FedExCup Playoffs. He had a really good run earlier in the year, so has the game to secure his first DP World Tour title at this event.”

James Shearman: “Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry are the two high-profile Irishmen in the field but I’m predicting Seamus Power to win at Royal County Down. Power is in fine form, having finished tied 10th at the FedEx St Jude Championship.”
