Matt Fitzpatrick has taken to social media after fellow Englishman Aaron Rai won the Wyndham Championship.

Billy Horschel predicted a winning score of 18 to 20 under, with Rai clinching the title after finishing on 18 under.

Weather impacted the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club, forcing the players to play 36 holes on Sunday.

And it was Rai who emerged victorious on the mammoth final day at the Wyndham Championship, firing a final round 64 to win by two shots.

The Englishman has now clinched his first PGA Tour on what was his 89th Tour start, having previously posted five top 10 finishes in 2024.

Rai played alongside good friend Billy Horschel over the final 36 holes, with the latter encouraging the former right until the very end.

Fitzpatrick has now taken to social media to congratulate Rai on the win, writing on X: “Not many nicer guys than Aaron Rai out on tour! So pleased for him!”

The 2022 US Open winner also had kind words for Horschel, saying: “Also Billy Horschel willing him on down the last few holes! Top stuff!”

Aaron Rai fully deserving of success at Sedgefield

It really was a mammoth effort from the entire field at Sedgefield, with rain and bad light having seriously impacted proceedings.

But thanks to plenty of support from Horschel, Rai stayed calm when it really mattered, climbing the ranks with a fine display.

An eight-foot putt sealed his first PGA Tour victory, with the Englishman dealing with the pressure on the final green superbly.

His playing partner and close friend Horschel also enjoyed a positive Sunday, with the American finishing T7 on 12 under.

But all of the plaudits must go to Rai, who will be delighted that all of his hard work in recent times has finally paid off.
