The BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Golf Club has long been one of the highlights of the DP World Tour.

The event welcomes some of the best golfers from around the world every year and it all came down to two of them in 2024.

South African Thriston Lawrence was eliminated with a par at the first playoff hole which left Rory McIlroy and Billy Horschel to compete for the title.

And, the American sealed the deal with an excellent eagle at the par-5 18th to win the tournament for a second time.

But the players are not the only reason that the BMW PGA Championship is such a spectacle; the course makes for entertaining golf.

The Golfing Gazette tells you how much it costs to play Wentworth, as well as other important information.

Courses at Wentworth Golf Club

There are 63 holes at Wentworth Golf Club, across four courses. The most famous is the West Course, used annually for the BMW PGA Championship and once for the Ryder Cup (1953). The course plays 7,284 yards and the par score is 72.

The East Course is the second 18-hole course at the club. It is a par 68 with a yardage of only 6,201.

The third 18-hole course at Wentworth is the Edinburgh course, which plays 7,004 yards with a par score of 72.

The Executive Course is a short nine-hole course with a total par of 27. The length of the course is 1,902 yards, at an average of 211 yards per hole.

How much it costs to play at Wentworth Golf Club

It used to be possible for the general public to play at Wentworth Golf Club – albeit for a substantial green fee.

Indeed, anyone with a handicap of 18 or lower could play the famous West Course for between £195 to £360 depending on the time of year a decade ago. The price included a caddy.

That is no longer the case as Wentworth has since been made private. This means that only club members or guests of members can play.

This is a shame for golfers in the United Kingdom who want to test themselves at one of the most well-known courses in the country.

Thankfully, private golf clubs are a rarity in the UK, with even the 2024 Open Championship host Royal Troon welcoming non-members.

Membership at Wentworth Golf Club

Membership at Wentworth Golf Club rose from £8,000 per year to £16,000 nine years ago when the new Beijing-based owners took over.

Since then, the fees have risen astronomically as the club became totally private. The club is thought to charge an incredible £175,000 debenture to become a member.

Wentworth is home to many celebrities, including three-time European Tour winner and Sky Sports golf presenter Nick Dougherty.

Meanwhile, Premier League legend John Terry and legendary cricket player Kevin Pietersen are also members.
