Royal Troon Golf Club just hosted an action-packed Open Championship and now many golf fans will be wondering whether they can play the iconic course themselves.
The Open 2024 was one of the most entertaining majors in recent memory, largely due to the challenging conditions the players faced.
As is often the case in Scotland, the weather was unpredictable, with rain and wind a factor at various times throughout the tournament.
Meanwhile, the tight fairways, thick rough, steep bunkers and awkward pin positions made it enough of a test for the top players – even without the elements.
Royal Troon is nothing like the average course; it will put every aspect of your game to the test – and likely come out on top.
But if you are up for the challenge and wish to replicate Xander Schauffele’s exceptional play, it is possible to play the course as long as you are willing to empty your pockets.

How much it costs to play Royal Troon
It costs a fee of £365 to play the Old Course at Royal Troon. That is unless you are a PGA member, in which case the fee is reduced to £285. Caddies are also available at a price of £65 per round.
Alternatively, a round on the Portland course costs much less – £125 for most and £95 for PGA members. This could be a more suitable option for recreational golfers.
Can anyone play Royal Troon?
Royal Troon is open to the public but only to men with a handicap of 20 or less and women with a handicap of 30 or less. Tee time availability at this time of year, especially with the buzz around the recent Open, is likely to be an issue.
How much is a membership at Royal Troon?
Membership at one of the United Kingdom’s top courses does not come cheap. Indeed, it costs £5000 to become a member at Royal Troon, as well as an annual fee of £2750, according to GolfLists.com.
