It’s safe to say the weather played its part at Royal Troon today and Scottie Scheffler has been giving his verdict on just how tough it was.

Scheffler was one of the players who managed to keep himself within the picture to win as he produced a level par round to get safely into the clubhouse at two under.

A remarkable shot on the 17th was the highlight of another masterclass from Scheffler, who goes into tomorrow just two back off the lead.

Of course, what the weather brings tomorrow is anyone’s guess.

Winds and rains could come again, while the timings of the worst gusts and downpours of the day could well play a huge role in just who comes out on top.

As we know, Scheffler and a lot of players are more used to playing in calmer conditions in the US.

And speaking about just how tough things got today, Scheffler has made a telling admission.

Luckily for Scheffler, he got around Royal Troon today in good nick and is in the mix to win tomorrow.

However, speaking after his round, Scheffler did admit that the conditions today and the course made it the hardest round of golf he has ever played.

Speaking specifically on the tricky back nine, the world number one conceded things were so tough.

“I think that was probably the hardest nine holes that I’ll ever play.

“I shouldn’t say ever, but it’s definitely the hardest that I’ve played to this point, I think.”

Scheffler’s performance overall was commented on by Catriona Matthew, with the former Solheim Cup captain suggesting Scheffler actually had a bit of a nightmare with his putter.

Still, he is right there for Sunday and if he makes a fast start, those at the top will be looking over their shoulders in fear.

Come Sunday evening, don’t be surprised if we are once again crowning Scottie Scheffler as a major winner yet again.
