Justin Rose will be aiming to balance playing and captain duties for the first time as he leads Great Britain & Ireland at the 2025 Team Cup.

Rose could become a Ryder Cup captain, with this week’s DP World Tour competition in Abu Dhabi providing him with an insight into the role.

The 2025 Ryder Cup is scheduled for Bethpage Black in September, where Rose could once again adopt a playing role.

Englishman Rose has featured in six Ryder Cup tournaments for Team Europe, winning on four occasions.

Rose thinks his ‘old-school’ approach serves him well, with the 44-year-old particularly impressing in 2024 with his T2 finish at The Open Championship.

But his focus now turns to team action at the Team Cup, where he assumes the Great Britain & Ireland captaincy for the first time.

And footage has now emerged of Rose looking around his side’s locker room, with the captain left very impressed.

“Oh wow, how cool,” said Rose. “Jeez. This is awesome isn’t it? Premier League. I love the pink actually, it’s wicked.

“All this swag, this is lovely. Wow, the boys are going to be excited to be in here. I felt like in Rome this was a new vibe that I’d never experienced at a Ryder Cup.

“This almost looks even cooler… but lads who haven’t experienced that, it’s such a wow moment isn’t it when you see a locker room as you see other sports in a way.

“We always see football teams and the shirts hanging up and the names on the back and it takes you into a bit of a different realm where you really feel like a team, versus golf where we have never experienced something like this. So I think it sets the tone.”

Francesco Molinari to take on Justin Rose at 2025 Team Cup in Abu Dhabi

Rose takes over the Great Britain & Ireland captaincy role from Tommy Fleetwood, who led the side in the inaugural event in 2023.

Back then, Continental Europe defeated their opponents 14½ -10½, with winning captain Francesco Molinari resuming his role this time around.
