The International Series event over in the Philippines is over and done with and LIV Golf can look back on the event with mixed success for their players.

LIV provided a number of stars to the field for the event in the Philippines.

In the end, the event was won by home favourite Miguel Tabuena, who beat out Japanese pairing Kazuki Higa and Yosuke Asaji by three shots to seal a big win in front of his own crowd.

Indeed, the entire top five was made up of players from Asia, in what was a big success story for the region.

As for LIV Golf, there was a very mixed bag of results for their players in the end with some particular disappointments thrown in there.

Where LIV Golf’s players finished at the International Series Philippines

Deep down, LIV will have been hoping that one of their star names went over to the Philippines and got the win.

While they didn’t have the superstar names such as Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in the field, they had a number of more than capable players – like Marc Leishman – out there.

Indeed, it was Leishman who finished the highest for LIV, finishing in 6th place, while young American Caleb Surratt was in 7th as the next best LIV finisher.

Two of the biggest names in the field, Dustin Johnson and Patrick Reed, didn’t do themselves any harm by carding top 20s, with Reed T20 and Johnson in 15th in the end.

Another big name, Charl Schwartzel, also performed admirably as he came home in 12th.

At the other end of the spectrum, there were disappointments as well as Anthony Kim missed the cut to continue his miserable year, while Louis Oosthuizen was another surprise name to miss the line.

Danny Lee and Sam Horsfield also failed to make the cut, meaning it was very much a mixed bag in the end for LIV.

Why Marc Leishman believes LIV Golf could host an event in the Philippines

These big events in different parts of the world are always a bonus for the golf world and the International Series is doing a great job of showcasing golf around the world.

The fact a player from the Philippines actually won is a bonus for this tournament and the event itself proved a big success.

As for the future of golf in the Philippines, LIV’s Marc Leishman spoke about the course and admitted he’d love to see a LIV event there.

“Definitely, yes,” Leishman said when pressed on a LIV event taking place in the country.

“I think the Philippines could definitely handle it. Obviously, it’s a lot bigger build-out than what an International Series event is, similar, but on a bigger scale. I think they’re ready. The crowds would embrace it, seeing all the best players in the world, and I’m sure the players would love it too.

“I hope there is an event here in the future.”
