Gareth Bale enjoyed a phenomenal football career with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid, but the Welshman is also a very gifted golfer.

Rory McIlroy imparted wisdom on Bale at last year’s BMW PGA Championship Celebrity Pro-Am, one of many such events the latter has taken part in.

Currently focusing on Augusta National, McIlroy has been tipped for Masters contention, with two wins to his name in 2025 so far.

Bale meanwhile will more than likely tune in to the first major of the season given his love of the sport, with the Masters returning next week.

That love often coincided with his football career, in which he won five Champions League titles and a long list of other significant trophies.

Bale was also on hand to share his 0.1 handicap, and when asked if he would rather win the Masters or the Euros with Wales, he said: “Win the Euros with Wales.”

What other sports stars have joined Gareth Bale in taking up golf?

Bale is, of course, one of a number of footballing icons to have fallen in love with golf over the years, although the Welshman didn’t exactly hide that passion during his spell at Real Madrid.

And footballers aren’t the only sportspeople in that regard, with the likes of tennis legends Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal both avid golfers.

Elsewhere, NBA hero Michael Jordan is friends with Tiger Woods, having taken on many courses alongside his stunning basketball career.

Another basketball star in Steph Curry is also a gifted golfer, with NFL legend Tom Brady another to have taken up the sport.
