Rory McIlroy is looking to get back to winning ways after finishing second in his last two DP World Tour events.

Dane Rasmus Højgaard pipped McIlroy to the Irish Open title before Billy Horschel made history at the BMW PGA Championship, beating the Northern Irishman in a playoff.

McIlroy is now at St Andrews ahead of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, looking for his first win since the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow.

And on the eve of Thursday’s first round, McIlroy was one of the first people at the Old Course early on Wednesday morning.

According to Michael McEwan, McIlroy was joined by former European Ryder Cup star Nicolas Colsaerts at St Andrews.

Footage of the Northern Irishman on the range with Horschel also emerged.

Elsewhere, PIF chief Yasir Al-Rumayyan and PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan will also compete in the pro-am-style event.

With LIV Golf stars Brooks Koepka, Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton also competing, an interesting field has emerged on Scotland’s east coast this week.

As talks between the PGA Tour and PIF rumble on, heavy-hitting names from both sides have assembled at the home of golf.

As the event progresses, headlines will undoubtedly emerge about the standoff between LIV and the PGA Tour.

Hopefully, Alfred Dunhill provides another chance for some of the game’s biggest names to reunite and come closer to an agreement that will end the current divide.
