The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship 2024 starts on Thursday! The Golfing Gazette brings you how to watch, predictions, prize money, dates and more.

The DP World Tour event is a pro-am where every professional golfer is paired with an amateur player who is typically a celebrity or family member.

The celebrities in action this week include Hollywood stars Michael Douglas and Bill Murray, and surfing great Kelly Slater.

Each pair alternates between three top links courses in East Scotland from Thursday to Saturday before the finale on Sunday at St Andrews.

The main event is the individual professional tournament, which the likes of Padraig Harrington and Tyrell Hatton have won previously, while there is also a team title for the best pro-am pair.

Here is all the important information about the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship 2024.

The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship starts on Thursday the 3rd of October 2024 and ends on Sunday the 6th of October 2024.

The first three days of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship take place at three different golf clubs on the east coast of Scotland: St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns.

The final round is played on the Old Course at St Andrews – otherwise known as the ‘Home of Golf’.

Matthew Fitzpatrick (-19) won last year’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship by three shots over Marcus Armitage, Matthew Southgate and 2022 winner Ryan Fox.

Two years ago, Fox (-17) beat Callum Shinkwin and Alex Noren to lift his third of four DP World Tour titles.

Are LIV Golf players taking part?

Yes. The DP World Tour allows LIV Golf players to compete in their events and 14 of them are taking part this week.

However, Ian Poulter did not receive an invite to play in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship even though he wanted to.

The prize money at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is $5 million. This figure has not changed since last season when Fitzpatrick won the tournament.

The event will allocate 17% of the total purse to the winner ($850,000). The runner-up will receive $550,000, while $315,000 will go to third place.

How to Watch (US)

The Golfing Gazette writers predict who they think will lift the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship trophy:

Sam Stone: “Jon Rahm is the main attraction this week, and the LIV Golf star is the man to beat. Rahm has dominated in the breakaway league and came close to winning on his DP World Tour return last week. Furthermore, the Spaniard finished T7 at The Open, which was a stern test of links golf at Royal Troon. With Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed also in the field, this week could prove one of the most entertaining of 2024.”

Jordan Harris: “Tyrrell Hatton has won the Dunhill Links on two previous occasions, and was, by far, Legion XIII’s best player on the final of the Team Championship at LIV Golf Dallas. He may remind everyone this week what a big miss he has been to the DP World Tour for the majority of the year.”

Peter Lynch: “Jon Rahm is clearly a man with a lot on his mind at this moment in time, with the Spaniard not backing down in his tussle with the PGA Tour. But it hasn’t exactly impacted his golf lately, and I think he can go one step better than his play-off loss at last week’s Spanish Open at the Alfred Dunhill.”

James Shearman: “Brooks Keopka’s form has been mixed lately. He won LIV Golf Greenbrier and finished sixth at LIV Golf Chicago yet struggled at the Team Championship in Dallas a fortnight ago. But St Andrews is his favourite course and he has the added motivation of needing world ranking points. I expect the American to put on a show this week and be in contention come Sunday afternoon.”
