Bryson DeChambeau will get Team USA’s 2025 Ryder Cup underway at Bethpage Black.

Justin Thomas and Bryson DeChambeau will tee off first in their Friday foursomes match against LIV Golf duo Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton. It’s a star-studded and explosive matchup to get us underway.

Rumours that DeChambeau and Thomas would be paired began to surface on Wednesday, and it’s a bold decision by Keegan Bradley. At their best, they will be unbeatable, but both are inconsistent and incredibly emotional on the course.

Against them are a successful European pairing from Rome, and Luke Donald leans on the experience of his team to lead them out of the gates. DeChambeau told reporters what he thinks about Rahm and Hatton before their highly anticipated match.

Bryson DeChambeau wants to ‘send a message’ against Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton

Rahm and Hatton are opponents that DeChambeau knows well from the LIV Golf tour. Rahm won the LIV Golf individual title this season, and he and Hatton of Legion XIII beat DeChambeau’s Crushers GC in the team event final.

They’re a tried-and-tested pairing, and DeChambeau recognised the challenge that awaits him. He said, “We’ve got a big responsibility and role. We’re going to be going up against a great team, Rahm and Hatton. They’re a formidable force, but we want to send a message.”

DeChambeau and Thomas are not a foursomes pairing many would have predicted months ago. Thomas’ driving ability is shaky, at best, and on a course that rewards distance off the tee, Europe will fancy themselves on any hole where Thomas hits first.

Despite that, DeChambeau is relishing the opportunity to fire up his home crowd on the first match of the tournament. He said that he “couldn’t ask for a better pairing” and is expecting a “tsunami of a wave of support” at Bethpage Black.

Europe don’t seem fazed by the prospect of the New York crowd. Tommy Fleetwood said fans are what make the Ryder Cup special. But Rahm and Hatton wear their hearts on their sleeves, and who knows how they will react on the first tee against a chorus of boos and heckles.

From the jump, there could be fireworks.

Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton’s Ryder Cup record

Donald is kicking things off with a reliable pairing, and an undefeated one at that. Rahm and Hatton have played together three times at the Ryder Cup, and are 2-0-1.

They first partnered up in 2021 at Whistling Straits and played DeChambeau, who teamed up with Scottie Scheffler. That match ended in a tie.

Then, the LIV pair set the tone in Rome two years later. They went off first against Scheffler and Sam Burns, taking a four and three victory. The next day, they played Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay, winning two and one.

Rahm has also played Thomas at the Ryder Cup twice before. He beat him and Jordan Spieth three and one in 2021, but lost to the same pairing in 2018 alongside Ian Poulter

Meanwhile, Hatton has played Thomas in every Ryder Cup he has participated in. He’s never beaten the American talisman, and will look to right that wrong in 2025.
