David Puig won the Australian PGA Championship at the Royal Queensland Golf Club by two strokes on Sunday.
Puig normally plays for LIV Golf’s Fireballs GC team alongside Sergio Garcia, Abraham Ancer, and Jose Luis Ballester.
However, the Spaniard has also competed in several DP World Tour events recently in pursuit of his first victory.
Puig will now be delighted he traveled Down Under after winning the Australian PGA Championship and emulating Seve Ballesteros.
And the 23-year-old actually spoke about Ballesteros in his post-round interview straight after clinching his first DP World Tour title.

David Puig emulates Seve Ballesteros at the Australian PGA Championship
David Puig is one of the most exciting talents in professional golf, and it was only a matter of time before he won on the DP World Tour.
The Australian PGA Championship is not one of the biggest prizes, especially in terms of the payout, but it remains a prestigious tournament.
Puig became only the second Spaniard to win the event after the great Seve Ballesteros at Royal Melbourne in 1981.

“It feels unbelievable, especially winning here in Australia. They have awesome golf, so I’m really excited and happy,” Puig reflected on his victory, via the DP World Tour website.
“I was definitely nervous, but I think I kind of kept my composure really well. Obviously, that start helped a lot.
“I want to thank my fiancée. She’s been with me throughout the last seven years. She’s incredible. Also, my parents and her family.
“I think we’re a really close group. We get along really well. It’s just amazing the support I get.”
Puig then mentioned Ballesteros specifically: “Obviously, my name being with Seve’s name as the only two Spaniards to have won this event makes it even more special. Really happy.”
Who is the best young player on LIV Golf right now?
David Puig could challenge Jon Rahm in the 2026 LIV Golf season
David Puig (85.48 points) finished 10th in the 2025 LIV Golf season standings, directly behind Fireballs teammate Sergio Garcia (89.82).
Puig showed remarkable consistency on LIV this year, finishing in the top 10 four times and never outside of the top 20.
The Spaniard has consistently excelled around the greens and has also developed into one of the longest hitters on the tour.
Puig’s next step will be to win his first LIV Golf event and challenge Jon Rahm and Joaquin Niemann for the individual championship.
The Spaniard has never finished in the top 20 at a major championship in five attempts, so that will also be on his agenda in 2026.
