Bryson DeChambeau was pipped to the LIV Mexico crown by Joaquin Neimann on Sunday.

And well-renowned commentator David Feherty thinks he knows exactly why Bryson DeChambeau is struggling to get over the line right now.

The defeat to Niemann at LIV Mexico would have hurt DeChambeau. The Chilean just seems to be better at closing out wins right now.

The 31-year-old hasn’t won on LIV Golf since 2023 although he did win the US Open just under 11 months ago.

DeChambeau was driving the ball exceptionally well on Friday and Saturday, but long and straight off the tee was replaced by long and crooked during the final day’s play.

He is a box office star, there is no doubt about that. DeChambeau thrilled the fans at LIV Mexico with his prodigious length off the tee.

However, he would have woken up a very disappointed man this morning.

David Feherty knows where Bryson DeChambeau is going wrong after LIV Mexico woes

The two-time major champion clearly knows how to get the job done.

He has won nine PGA Tour titles and two LIV Golf events, and has two US Open titles to his name.

However, there is clearly something not right at the moment.

DeChambeau has now folded on three consecutive weeks when heading into Sunday in contention to win.

In his last three final rounds, he shot three-over par at LIV Miami, three-over at Augusta National and level-par at LIV Mexico.

When asked why he thinks DeChambeau is struggling to win on LIV right now, Feherty responded by suggesting that he needs to rein things in a bit on the final day:

You know, he has that attitude where he’s got to go bombs away from start to finish, and you have to think back. Maybe if he dialled it back a little. The tee shot he hit nearly onto the road there at 13, it really cost him any chance that he had. So maybe a little over aggressive.

Feherty is probably right, but going ‘bombs away’ from start to finish is just the way that the 31-year-old American plays.

In fact, DeChambeau got criticised at The Masters for not being aggressive enough on the final day at Augusta National – damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

Could DeChambeau ever make PGA Tour return?

Golf fans deserve to watch the reigning US Open champion in action week in, week out.

Wouldn’t it be great if the powers that be at the PGA Tour and LIV could find a way to merge together.

However, Brandel Chamblee recently said he’s been told by a top source that a PGA Tour and LIV merger will never happen unfortunately.

If an agreement cannot be reached, it would be a major blow for golf fans the world over. We all deserve to see the best players on the planet compete against each other throughout the year on more than just four occasions.

DeChambeau is a blockbuster golfer. He draws in the crowds and is very good for the promotion of the game worldwide.

The PGA Tour are definitely missing out by not having him as part of their ranks.
