Jordan Spieth and Bryson DeChambeau were both used as examples by Brandel Chamblee, when discussing a potential PGA Tour and LIV Golf merger.

Bryson DeChambeau joined the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Tour way back in 2022, whilst Jordan Spieth remains one of the PGA Tour‘s most marketable players, in spite of his underwhelming form on the whole.

LIV Golf’s official Instagram account congratulated Rory McIlroy after he pipped the likes of Bryson DeChambeau to The Masters title.

However, there is still plenty of tension between the two rival factions, despite claims suggesting that a merger could happen some day soon.

Brandel Chamblee is well known for his strong views on the negative impact he believes LIV has had on the game.

Some kind of merger is surely what every golf fan wants. How can we only be able to watch DeChambeau compete against the best players in the world four times a year? It’s just not right.

However, Chamblee has a completely different take on the matter.

Brandel Chamblee makes PGA and LIV claim, uses Jordan Spieth and Bryson DeChambeau as examples

Chamblee has been speaking on The Bret Boone podcast after Rory McIlroy‘s dramatic win at The Masters.

Conversation quickly switched to DeChambeau’s performance at Augusta, and whether his showing will expedite talks regarding a PGA Tour and LIV merger.

Chamblee – a one-time PGA Tour winner – responded when asked whether there is a future in the game whereby both tours can be synchronised:

“The beginning of last year, I was on the range at The American Express. I’m not going to name his name, but I saw someone who’s one of the gatekeepers of golf. A billionaire businessman. I said what’s going to happen, and he said, ‘The deal will never get done’.

There is zero evidence that there is ever going to be a following for team play in golf. They’re not going to get Scottie Scheffler, they’re not going to get Rory McIlroy, they’re not going to get Jordan Spieth. I throw Jordan Spieth in there because he moves the needle. People think Jon Rahm moves the needle, I hate to break this to you, he doesn’t. Brooks Koepka, moves the needle? He doesn’t. People think Bryson DeChambeau moves the needle, he doesn’t. Very few people in golf move the needle. Tiger moves the needle, Rory moves the needle, Phil moved the needle, but not any more.”

Brandel Chamblee has got it all wrong about Bryson DeChambeau

DeChambeau is pure box-office, that’s a fact.

Despite his allegiance with LIV, golf fans the world over love watching the 31-year-old American play.

He brings great entertainment to the game and it’s a real shame that he chose to leave the PGA Tour three years ago.

Hopefully Brandel Chamblee is wrong and the PGA Tour and LIV manage to agree upon a way to coexist.

Golf fans deserve to see the likes of Bryson DeChambeau and Jordan Spieth competing against each other week in, week out.
