Vijay Singh has made the controversial decision to return to the PGA Tour this season.

Singh has used his career money-list exemption to receive full playing status for 2026.

He will make his comeback at the Sony Open in Hawaii next week, alongside many of the world’s best players.

Golf journalist Dan Rapaport now expects the PGA Tour to make a big change in response to Singh’s decision.

Dan Rapaport expects PGA Tour to change rules after Vijay Singh’s decision

Vijay Singh is 62 years old and has not played consistently on the PGA Tour since 2020.

The former world number one is a legend of the sport, but he is obviously not the player he once was.

Forget contending for the tournament; it would be impressive if Singh were to make the cut at the Sony Open.

That is why many golf fans are disappointed with his decision to take a place in the field away from another golfer.

Rapaport even believes that the PGA Tour will change its rules so that other players cannot copy Singh in the future.

He wrote: “Vijay Singh using a career money list exemption to play the PGA Tour at age 63 feels like one last carrot from the old PGA Tour, where the players ruled.

“The 101st best player on Tour lost full status, too. It’s such an outdated concept, cannot imagine this continues.”

Matt Kuchar made a different decision to Vijay Singh

Another PGA Tour legend could have made the same decision as Vijay Singh this season.

Matt Kuchar is 13th on the PGA Tour money list, but he has decided against using the exemption.

Kuchar will still play at next week’s Sony Open, as he is a former champion, but he will not qualify for as many events as Singh.

Kuchar finished 118th in the FedExCup standings last season, ending his run of 19 consecutive years with a full PGA Tour card.
