Vijay Singh is all set to make a dramatic comeback to the PGA Tour, having committed to the Sony Open.

The 2026 PGA Tour season starts with next week’s Sony Open, with 62-year-old Singh among the players lining out at Waiʻalae Country Club.

Singh is a 34-time winner on the PGA Tour, having won three major championships during his fantastic career.

He clinched the PGA Championship in 1998 and 2004, having emerged victorious at The Masters in 2000.

Who do you think could be the PGA Tour’s breakout star of 2026?

There are plenty of hugely talented young players…

Angry PGA Tour fans rage at Vijay Singh’s career money list exemption

But Singh has really angered fans with his latest decision, with the Fijian using his career money list exemption for the 2026 season.

One fan wrote on X: “This is ridiculous. Vijay Singh is using the career money list exemption to get full status on the PGA Tour this year as a soon-to-be 63-year-old. Guys out here grinding for starts and Vijay is going to take up spots as a 63-year-old dude?

“Vijay is already signed up for the season-opening Sony Open in Hawaii. This is beyond ridiculous in my opinion. Change the rule. Don’t let him play.

“Let’s have [Brooks] Koepka sit out for a year while we let Vijay take up spots on the PGA Tour. That seems like a great idea.”

A second agreed: “Disgusting VJ… hard enough trying to qualify for the PGA tour these days and fewer spots. Give it buddy! For once in your life think about one besides yourself.”

Other golf fans concurred, saying: “He’s not been relevant for 15-20 years”, and “He should stick to the Champions Tour.”

Further criticism arrived from another who noted: “I think this is one of the most selfish moves I’ve ever seen in sports.”

And it didn’t end there, with another saying: “Not a fan. He’s had his time on the PGA tour, make $ millions I’m sure. He’s taking a young guy’s spot.”

Another comment read: “I’ll admit he’s earned it, but why take spots from young up-and-coming guys? Why not play on the PGA Tour Champions?”

Where does Vijay Singh rank in the PGA Tour money list?

Singh has indeed turned to the PGA Tour Champions since his successful PGA Tour career, claiming five wins.

But he made his millions on the PGA Tour, with the veteran currently occupying eighth place in the all-time money list.

With his total of $71,281,216, he is just ahead of current players Justin Thomas and Adam Scott in the top 10.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, 82-time winner Tiger Woods occupies top spot, having earned $120,999,166 on the PGA Tour.

1Tiger Woods$120,999,166
2Rory McIlroy$107,981,766
3Scottie Scheffler$99,453,136
4Phil Mickelson$96,727,968
5Dustin Johnson$75,695,066
6Justin Rose$73,736,017
7Jim Furyk$71,507,269
8Vijay Singh$71,281,216
9Justin Thomas$70,601,520
10Adam Scott$69,759,328

Second-placed Rory McIlroy ($107,981,766) is the only other player on nine figures, with Scottie Scheffler in third on $99,453,136.

It’s certainly a bizarre loophole that Singh is taking advantage of, but of course there is the other side of the argument that he has earned his place thanks to his previous career efforts.

Intriguingly, his fellow veteran Matt Kuchar has avoided such fan ire after deciding against using the money list exemption for full PGA Tour status for 2026.
