The first event of Scottie Scheffler’s 2026 season has now been confirmed.

Many are excited to see what Scottie Scheffler will achieve over the next 12 months. There is no question that the world number one has been the game’s most dominant player since Tiger Woods.

Who will win more on the PGA Tour in 2026 out of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood?

Scheffler has won 15 times worldwide since the start of the 2024 season. Within that run, he has won three majors and moved to within a US Open victory of completing the Career Grand Slam.

Of course, the start of his 2025 season was disrupted by Scheffler suffering a hand injury over Christmas. He did not tee it up until the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am last year.

He will make an earlier first start this time around – provided he avoids the temptation to make any ravioli.

According to tournament officials, Scheffler has committed to playing The American Express. He joins the likes of Rickie Fowler, Akshay Bhatia, and Sepp Straka in playing in La Quinta, according to a report from ESPN.

Scheffler has also signed up for the WM Phoenix Open.

The 29-year-old secured his first PGA Tour victory at TPC Scottsdale back in 2022. He went on to retain his crown the following year.

Remarkably, it was the WM Phoenix Open that saw Scheffler’s worst result of 2025 as he finished tied for 25th. With that, you would be forgiven for forgetting that Scheffler actually looked to have an outside chance of winning when he reached the turn on Sunday.

How Scottie Scheffler has played at The American Express across his career

Injury looks to be the only reason Scheffler has not always been an ever-present at The American Express since his debut in 2020.

That first year also saw Scheffler’s best result in the event. He finished third after an underwhelming final round.

Scheffler actually missed the cut in 2021 – the year before his most recent missed cut in any event.

But he has since finished in the top 25 in his last three appearances at The American Express.

It will be an ominous sign for the rest of the PGA Tour if he makes an impressive start in California.

And should he hit the ground running with a win, many will probably feel a sense of resignation ahead of the 2026 season.
