The Presidents Cup has finally arrived, with Collin Morikawa among the US Team qualifiers looking to help his side come out on top.

Morikawa could outshine Scottie Scheffler at the Presidents Cup, although the duo will perhaps be more focused on playing as a team.

Joining the pair as automatic qualifiers for the US Presidents Cup team are Xander Schauffele, Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay and Sahith Theegala.

Captain Jim Furyk then added to the mix by controversially selecting the next six highest ranked players in the list.

Assistant captain Stewart Cink backed Furyk’s selections of Keegan Bradley, Sam Burns, Tony Finau, Brian Harman, Russell Henley and Max Homa.

Collin Morikawa makes Xander Schauffele claim ahead of the Presidents Cup

The players are now at Royal Montreal in Canada as the event prepares to get underway, with Morikawa among those in high spirits ahead of the event.

He was asked in his Presidents Cup press conference who the funniest player on the PGA Tour is, with Morikawa saying: “Xander. Easily.”

“Xander is leading in energy for sure. I’ve been around Pat for a long time and he’s kind of the smart ass comment from your left shoulder. Scottie is always there to keep a smile on your face.

“We have a lot guys on the team that honestly, a lot of just good, positive energy. You know, it sounds pretty cliche and cheesy to say, but you can kind of go up to anyone and have a good laugh and talk. That’s what’s great. Xander definitely wins the MVP for kind of like class clown.”

Positivity is undoubtedly a key factor at such events, with team spirit needing to be high at all times in order to achieve success.

That certainly hasn’t always been the case for American players in team events, with their team spirit often letting them down at the likes of the Ryder Cup.

US Team captain Furyk therefore needs to both get the big calls right in terms of player decisions, but he must also engender a positive atmosphere.

His team are unquestionably the stars of the show, but much more than just talent is needed to win the Presidents Cup.

The International Team, led by Mike Weir, may just benefit from being the underdogs, with no real pressure on their shoulders in Canada, apart from perhaps those competing on home soil.
