Collin Morikawa believes one part of Tiger Woods’ game is still considerably better than most PGA Tour pros.
Woods endured a torrid 2024 PGA Tour season and missed cuts at three of the four majors; after making the cut at the Masters, Woods finished last at Augusta National.
Tiger has undergone more surgery and is now set to return in 2025 after the TGL season schedule was announced.
There’s no doubt Woods isn’t the player he once was, with his driving and iron play nowhere near the level it was five years ago.
Morikawa, however, believes Woods’ touch and creativity are still at an elite level.

Speaking before this week’s ZOZO Championship, Morikawa was asked about the 15-time major winner.
“When I have played with him after – I did not play with him this week when we played in 2019 – but when I have played with him, the touch in his hands and the creativity that he has and just the smarts for the game is way more than any of us,” Morikawa said.
“It’s the non-stop growth and growing mindset that you have to have. He is well past a lot of us, and it’s just amazing as he has the talent to back it up and create these shots, which are just incredible.”
Woods won the 2019 ZOZO Championship just months after he claimed his 15th major at Augusta National. The event five years ago was Woods’ last professional victory and helped him tie Sam Snead’s 82 PGA Tour wins.
Tiger Woods injury latest ahead of 2025
Woods’ latest surgery involved more work on his back, which should alleviate the spasms he experienced during the 2024 season.
The biggest thing for the 15-time major winner is being able to play more regularly. Too often, four consecutive rounds are too much for his body to handle.
If Woods can put some of his injury issues behind him and compete at least once a month, there’s a slim chance he could make himself competitive once more.
The golfing world saw in 2019 that he’s capable of the remarkable, but it would take something utterly improbable for Tiger to return to an elite level. Hopefully, with the TGL set to start, the innovative indoor league is the first chance for Woods to return to swinging a club competitively before the build-up to the Masters begins.
