In-form American Cameron Young is among a cluster of players hoping to get the nod from Keegan Bradley for the Ryder Cup next month.
Young finally broke his PGA Tour duck by winning the Wyndham Championship and he’s once again in the mix at East Lake as the Tour Championship motors on.
The powerful American has been one of the big success stories on the PGA Tour all season long, and but for a few mishaps and late drop offs, he’d have more than just that one win.
Nevertheless, his form has been that good that he’s moved into the top 20 in the Ryder Cup rankings and could well be one of the players Keegan Bradley turns to.
And now, speaking after his second round at East Lake, Young has revealed some details of private chats with the skipper.

Cameron Young says what Keegan Bradley has been saying to him about the Ryder Cup
Keegan Bradley himself has admitted his focus is on Bethpage and as part of that, he’ll be having conversations with a number of players.
As we know, nothing is set in stone just yet and Bradley needs to pick six players, with the challenge of selecting himself or not another issue.
However, according to Cam Young, there have been conversations with Bradley and in his mind, they’re going well.
“Yeah, a lot. I’ve been saying for the last bunch of weeks now that my goals were get here and get there, to the Ryder Cup. I’ve done part one, and part two I think involves some good golf here. I’ve just got to do my best to keep that up over the next couple days and see what I get out of it,” Young said when asked about his form of late.
“Yeah, he’s been incredibly encouraging to me. He’s obviously watching everybody very closely, and he’s been very kind to reach out and show some enthusiasm and some support when I’ve played well. But yeah, I know he’s got a lot on his plate, so I don’t expect a ton from him.
“But he’s been very nice to me, and I appreciate any consideration he’s given me to putting me on that team.”
Cameron Young gives his opinion on Bethpage Black as a golf course
Young himself has made no secret of his desire to play in the Ryder Cup.
He has a lot going for him in terms of his game, and there’s a lot about Bethpage that will suit him as well.
Indeed, Young is more than adept at playing the New York course and he’s admitted just why he fancies his chances around there.
“I’ve always loved it. It’s a straightforward, big-boy golf course. There’s just not much funky about it. The greens are not crazy. The fairways aren’t really, really narrow. It’s long, but it’s not the longest place in the world.

“But it’s just straightforward. It’s difficult. That’s the kind of golf that I like. Yeah, the state open. I think I shot 64 the last round, and it was just one of those days, just felt like today. Kind of kept it in the fairway a lot and hit a bunch of good shots. I think I had a putt to win outright on 18 and didn’t make it, but then was able to make a 3 in a playoff. Yeah, it was a cool one. That’s one of our major opens up there and fun to be in contention.
“Like I said, I love that golf course, so happy to play there anytime.”
With Team USA likely needing their very best resources, Young could well be the man Bradley turns to in terms of a wildcard selection.
