Scottie Scheffler is still well in the race to win the Tour Championship, but his performance on day two at East Lake has left him with a lot of work to do.
Scheffler posted a round of one-under par 69 on Friday at East Lake, and he’s currently sitting five shots off the lead held by Tommy Fleetwood.
Amazingly, his last round in the 70s came way back in June at the Travelers Championship.
On day one, Scheffler achieved a career first at the Tour Championship by holing three putts outside of 25 feet.
The 29-year-old world number one shot a round of seven-under par on Thursday, but things just didn’t click for him on day two.
Scheffler has been compared with Tiger Woods recently, and that’s no surprise given the quality of golf he has produced over the past 18 months.
However, he was a long way off his best at East Lake on Friday.
Scottie Scheffler says if he’s concerned about his golf at the Tour Championship
Scheffler cut a hugely frustrated figure out on the golf course on Friday afternoon.
He made a number of uncharacteristic mistakes during his second round of the Tour Championship.

The man from Dallas, Texas, addressed the media after his round, and responded when asked whether he is concerned about his golf game right now.
Scheffler said: “No. I think if I continue to strike it the way I did today, it’s just one of those days where it seemed like I wasn’t get rewarded for the stuff that I was doing; just a touch off all day.
“My game definitely doesn’t feel off, but you look at 18, end up a foot off the fairway.
17 I have to chip out sideways.
“14 I felt like I hit a good shot in there and it kicked right into the bunker. Just little stuff here and there.
“Just wasn’t as sharp as I needed to be, and I kind of paid the price for it today.
“I felt like I did some good things. I felt like I could have done things a little better. Overall I didn’t really feel like I did too poorly. Just didn’t get a lot out of it.
Scheffler was then asked whether his shot into the 18th green was in response to questions being asked of his wedge game after round one.
He said: “Yes. It was like, man, I’ve really increased the standard. I shot 7-under and Doug is insulting my wedge game. It was a tough pill to swallow after my round today.
“I hit two good wedges to finish off. I notice Doug is not here anymore, so I guess he’s got nothing good to ask me.“
Scottie Scheffler’s stats from round two of the Tour Championship
Scheffler was obviously not on top form at East Lake on Friday.
In fact, he was nowhere near it at times.
Here are his stats from day two of the Tour Championship:
| Stats | Scheffler’s rank |
| Strokes gained off the tee | 26 |
| Strokes gained approach | 17 |
| Strokes gained around the green | 25 |
| Strokes gained putting | 13 |
| Strokes gained total | T23 |
Scheffler’s final two wedge shots on 17 and 18 on Friday kept him in the race for the Tour Championship.
While he didn’t play his best, he still shot a round of 69, and perhaps his ability to still post a decent score even when he’s playing poorly is actually his best trait.
