The more wins Scottie Scheffler racks up on the PGA Tour and during major championship weeks, the more that comparisons between him and Tiger Woods are made.

What Scheffler has done over the past two seasons on the PGA Tour has been truly remarkable, and the only golfer who has displayed similar levels in recent history is Woods.

Comparisons between Scheffler and Woods began in earnest after the 29-year-old won The Open Championship at Royal Portrush in July.

That victory took him to 17 PGA Tour wins and four major championship victories since February 2022. He now has 18 wins to his name after his triumph at the BMW Championship last week.

When speaking to the press ahead of the Tour Championship this week, Scheffler shared how he was shocked by Woods’ intensity during the only tournament round they ever played together at the 2020 Masters.

However, if the man from Dallas, Texas, continues to win at his current rate, he will be close to Woods’ achievements within the next 10-12 years.

Scottie Scheffler told some home truths about Tiger Woods comparisons

Johnson Wagner, a former PGA Tour player, is now one of the most well-informed analysts on our TV screens.

And after Scheffler described the comparisons with Woods as ‘silly’, Wagner delivered his verdict.

He was speaking to SIRIUSXM PGA TOUR Radio about Scheffler’s incredible form this season.

And he responded to comparisons being made between the current world number one and Woods.

Wagner said: He has amassed such a big lead in these world rankings that, I mean, there is no other person you can compare him to other than Tiger, with the dominance that he’s had. It’s not just winning five times in back-to-back years. He has had, what, two finishes outside the top-10 all season. It’s the consistency in which he’s doing it, even his bad weeks are top-10s.

Maybe he doesn’t like the comparison but the statistical anomalies of his ball-striking numbers, the only person you can compare those to is Tiger in 2000 and Tiger in 2005.

He may not like it, and I like the fact the he sort of wants to push it off, but man is he impressive.

Tiger Woods vs Scottie Scheffler: Career PGA Tour records compared

There aren’t many players in the professional game who even get close to Woods when it comes to their career records.

And while Scheffler is still a long way off the numbers recorded by the 49-year-old, he’s definitely on the right path to at least get close to him.

If Scheffler wins four PGA Tour events on average over the next 15 years, and one major every other year during that period, he will be very close to Woods’ numbers.

That will be a lot easier said than done of course but if anyone can do it, the current world number one can.
