Cameron Smith was in fine form in Dallas as he led his Ripper GC side to the LIV Golf Team Championship title.

Smith finished seventh in the LIV Golf Individual Championship last week, before going on to clinch silverware in the team event.

Legion XIII star Jon Rahm added $22million to his earnings for 2024 by securing the individual title last week, seeing off fierce competition from Joaquin Niemann.

But the Spaniard missed the LIV Golf Team Championship Dallas due to illness, with fans unhappy with Rahm as Smith capitalised on his absence by winning the team title with his compatriots.

Lucas Herbert, Marc Leishman and Matt Jones all impressed for Ripper GC, although captain Smith shone brightest with his final round 68.

Cameron Smith helps Ripper GC win LIV Golf Team Championship Dallas

It has been a LIV Golf success story for Ripper GC, who won on home soil in Adelaide before clinching another trophy in Singapore.

Smith, however, failed to secure silverware in the Individual Championship, although the Australian did finish as runner-up on three occasions.

The 2022 Open Championship winner has now reviewed his season, saying in his final LIV Dallas press conference: “I think it was a solid season. I think probably in hindsight I wish I would have trusted what I was doing technically a little bit more.

“I feel like I’ve made some really good strides with my golf swing. Hit the ball great some days and other days just not great, just purely because of, I guess just trying to get better and trying to improve. There’s some shots that you used to play that you can’t play.

“Yeah, so I think it’s been a very good year technically for me. I feel like I’ve ticked a lot of boxes. For me now, I just need to really let things go and basically play better. It’s not a thing of on the range.

“I get on the range and flush it and get out there and seems I can’t hit the middle of the club face. It’s been a very frustrating year, but from a team standpoint, I couldn’t have wished for anything more.”

Cameron Smith shares ‘biggest regret’ of his 2024 LIV Golf season

With three podium finishes along with their two titles, Ripper GC were awarded a bye into the Team Championship semi-finals, and they certainly took advantage of that situation in Dallas.

They shot 11 under as a group at Maridoe Golf Club, beating both 4Aces GC (-8) and Iron Heads GC (-8) by three shots.

Winning captain Smith is unsurprisingly delighted with the win, although he is already looking ahead to LIV Golf 2025.

“You’re always digging deep for these guys, genuinely, and it’s a pretty cool feeling to have, not having that before, and I can’t wait for next year,” he said.

“We’re going to be the same next year. It’s going to be the same lineup. I really think there’s going to be some added motivation before… I think we start in Saudi next year.

“Being that Adelaide is going to be our biggest event of the year again probably next year, I think there’s probably some added prep and some incentive to defend that.

“I think the biggest regret from all of us this year is just not starting off as well as we finished. From Adelaide onwards, I feel like we were the best team out here, and we need to be on our game from Saudi onwards next year.”
