Despite a big golf tournament taking place in Wentworth this week, a lot of the talk in golf has centred around the announcement from the PGA of America when it comes to next year’s Ryder Cup.

The PGA of America has confirmed this week that players from LIV Golf will indeed be eligible for selection as Keegan Bradley looks to get to grips on what his plans for his final 12 will look like.

As we all know, the constant chatter around LIV and PGA Tour striking some sort of deal has become a bit tiresome to a lot of people.

Indeed, PGA player Michael Kim has even said he doesn’t want a deal to happen, while Rory McIlroy has been speaking about the apparent ‘stumbling blocks’ to a deal in place at the moment.

Still, news is news and when it comes to this particular announcement, it does at least have some relevancy when it comes to those players on LIV trying to qualify for Team USA.

However, sharing an update on the full situation, Golf Central’s Rex Hoggard has explained why it’s not complete plain sailing for the LIV guys.

Rex Hoggard explains why LIV Golf events won’t count towards Ryder Cup qualification

Speaking about the statement from the PGA of America and going into some more detail about it, Hoggard explained some of the nitty-gritty.

And in doing so, revealed that LIV players are still pretty hamstrung in terms of trying to qualify automatically.

‘It’s really important to point out and it’s clear here, that what this does not do, is create a system where LIV players get points from LIV events. The points still come from major championships, and select PGA Tour events,” Hoggard said.

“So players would need to play really really well and you’re limited in opportunities but if you’re Bryson DeChambeau, it takes a lot of things off your plate.”

Clearly, then, the pathway is open for the LIV players to get onto the team if they fancy the challenge.

However, the impression is that this is simply going to give Keegan Bradley scope to use his picks on the LIV players.

And with the likes of Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka over on LIV, Bradley will probably be a relieved man.
