As if golf wasn’t exciting enough at the moment, we might well have a new rivalry on our hands when it comes to Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy.
The popular duo are both stars of their respective tours on the PGA and LIV side and at last month’s Masters, went head to head as McIlroy won out.
Since then, McIlroy and DeChambeau have both commented on their apparent avoidance of each other while playing at Augusta.
And after both players dropped out of contention at the PGA Championship – albeit McIlroy rather more spectacularly – DeChambeau couldn’t resist a little mention of his rival while speaking to the press.

DeChambeau was disappointed in not winning after finishing up and he was clearly looking at how he could improve.
However, when assessing his week and asked about how he let two majors in a row get away from him, DeChambeau couldn’t help but get a mention in of him beating McIlroy.
“I’d say it was a bit of both. Definitely had an opportunity to beat Rory and definitely had an opportunity to give Scottie a run this week. Even though I was leading into the third round — or after 16 holes on the third round, but man, I just didn’t get it done,” DeChambeau said.
“I’ve got to learn how to be a little more precise with the wind, not let the wind affect the ball as much. It’s a tough task to do because I hit it so high and the ball just kind of moves it in the air. I’ve got to figure that out.
“I’ve got some tricks up my sleeve that I’m going to be working on and hopefully bring for the U.S. Open, but I’ve got to get some equipment here soon.”

While players like Dustin Johnson appear to be in cruise control over on LIV Golf, it’s obvious that Bryson DeChambeau is very much as focused as ever.
In the majors in recent times, he’s been in the final group at The Masters, while he still finished in a tie for second today despite falling short.
However, it is the consistency that is impressive.
DeChambeau now has five top six finishes in his last five majors, including that memorable win at the US Open in 2024 when he first ignited the McIlroy rivalry.
If he can keep up the form he’s showing and keep improving, then DeChambeau will definitely win more majors before he’s done.
In terms of this rivalry with Rory McIlroy, well, with a Ryder Cup to come, it only adds more fuel to the fire.
If Rory and Bryson come head to head at Bethpage Black, we can expect the biggest and most explosive of fireworks.
